TRADE QUALIFICATIONS · RPL

Trade qualification and RPL application support

Organise your work history, then check qualification and evidence requirements.

Whether your work involves carpentry, joinery, tiling, painting or another building trade, start with your actual tasks. We help clarify qualification options, organise evidence and follow up document requirements. The qualification must be checked against the RTO’s registered scope.

Check your trade and target qualification

We help match your actual work tasks to the target qualification and assessment requirements. If you plan to apply for a licence, we also help identify qualification requirements in the intended state or territory.

Organise genuine work evidence

We help organise employment dates, project records, work photos, referees and existing qualifications into a clear evidence index.

Follow through on assessment

We help follow up on assessment feedback and further evidence requests. An RTO with the relevant scope assesses competence and determines whether further training is needed.

QUEENSLAND → LICENSING

Start with the work you intend to do

Building work can involve different scopes of work, licence classes and application types.

    Describe the intended work

Describe the trade, activities and the role in which you intend to work.

  2. 02

    Check class and requirements

Check the relevant class, type and current requirements on the QBCC website.

  3. 03

    Review evidence and gaps

Compare qualification codes and experience records with the requirements, and list questions to resolve.

FAQs

Trade qualification, TRA and licence questions

Does experience mean no classes are needed?

RPL assesses existing knowledge and skills through genuine evidence reviewed by a registered training organisation. Years of experience alone do not determine the result; gaps may require further assessment or training. Trade qualifications and QBCC licences have separate requirements.

Does a trade qualification cover all building work?

Qualifications and licences are separate. Check licensing requirements for the work you intend to do. A qualification does not replace a QBCC licence.

Does every TRA programme assess documents only?

Requirements differ by programme. MSA mainly assesses documents; OSAP may involve a technical interview or practical assessment, while JRP includes workplace assessment. Confirm the applicable programme before preparing.

Qualification first, or licence class first?

If your goal is a building licence, identify the work scope and licence class first. Then check the accepted technical qualifications and other criteria before choosing a qualification.

Are worksite photos enough for RPL?

Photos can be part of your evidence. Add project context, dates, your own tasks and verifiable records. The RTO decides which documents, interviews or practical assessments are needed.

What application support do you provide?

Support covers clarifying the trade and goal, organising evidence, preparing an application and tracking requests for further information within the agreed scope. The relevant body determines assessment and licensing outcomes.

What should I prepare for an initial enquiry?

List your trade, main tasks, work history, existing qualifications and location. Specify whether your goal is a trade qualification, TRA assessment or QBCC licence. The preparation page creates a summary without sending it.
