TRADE OCCUPATION · PROGRAMME · EVIDENCE & SKILLS
Easy Licence provides TRA trade skills assessment application support for building trades. We help check the applicable programme against your duties and background, organise qualifications and employment evidence, and prepare further documents and relevant interview or practical requirements.
We review your trade and day-to-day tasks against TRA’s official occupation information.
We help check MSA, OSAP, JRP or the relevant TSS programme against your occupation, passport country, training location, qualifications and assessment purpose.
We help organise verifiable training and work records, follow up on further document requests, and prepare for any relevant technical interview or practical assessment.
A clear occupation, a consistent work history and evidence that can be verified.
START WITH YOUR ACTUAL WORK
Building trades cover different tasks and assessment requirements. Identify your main duties before checking the occupation list.
Framing and on-site carpentry
Joinery components and installation
Masonry tasks and site records
Surface preparation, tiling and finishing
Surface treatment and painting
Check the occupation against actual tasks
These are starting points for discussion. Confirm both the assessable occupation and the applicable programme.
DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS, DIFFERENT PROGRAMMES
Programme selection considers your occupation, passport, training location, qualifications, work history and assessment purpose together.
Primarily a review of qualification and employment documents. Check whether MSA applies or another designated programme is required; location alone does not determine the route.
Focus: relevant qualifications, duties and verifiable employment.
Delivered by TRA-approved assessment providers for the applicable occupation and pathway. It includes documentary and technical assessment; practical requirements depend on the trade and pathway.
Focus: occupation and passport criteria, Pathway 1 / 2 and assessment arrangements.
An employment-based assessment for eligible international VET graduates working in Australia. Entry requires a successful PSA and other criteria, followed by employment, workplace and final assessment stages.
Focus: PSA prerequisites, eligible employment and stage records.
TRA retains the TSS programme name for assessments required by certain Skills in Demand (subclass 482) applicants. Check occupation, passport and relevant exemptions before selecting it.
Focus: whether assessment is required, the provider and technical assessment format.
PREPARING YOUR EVIDENCE
Organise your existing records first, then confirm the submission checklist for the relevant programme. These categories help you get started.
Gather qualifications, transcripts and relevant course or apprenticeship records, including the provider and training dates. If a qualification was obtained through RPL, include that background when checking requirements.
List each employer, period of work, role, hours and main tasks, with contact details for an employer or supervisor. Organise business records separately for self-employment.
Use actual projects to explain your tasks, tools and safe working practices. Photos, job sheets or project records may support your account when requested; they do not replace required documents.
Follow the programme requirements for employer statements and applicable payslips, tax, income or self-employment records. Check names, dates and employer details for consistency, and arrange required translations.
This is the sequence for enquiry and preparation. TRA and the relevant provider determine the actual assessment process.
Review everyday duties, qualifications and the assessment purpose against TRA occupations and programme criteria.
Checkpoint: The nominated occupation reflects your actual work.
Build a training and employment timeline, then identify records that need to be provided or verified.
Checkpoint: Your history, documents and referee details are consistent.
Provide the required evidence and prepare for any applicable technical interview, practical or workplace assessment.
Checkpoint: You understand the current stage, provider requirements and next actions.
Read the formal outcome and its intended use. For Queensland licensing, separately check the relevant QBCC class and conditions.
Checkpoint: The assessment outcome and subsequent application requirements are checked separately.
MSA does not award Australian qualifications or licences. OSAP outcomes depend on the occupation and pathway: some Pathway 1 applicants receive a relevant VET qualification, while TRA-licensed occupations may involve an OTSR and further steps. Any QBCC licence requires a separate application and its own eligibility checks.
Explore QBCC licence applicationsStart with the purpose of your application. RPL is an assessment pathway towards a qualification. Whether you need a TRA skills assessment, and which programme applies, depends on the occupation, your background and the application requirements.
Compare the main duties, relevant training and available evidence for each period of work. Performing a few tasks from a trade may not demonstrate the full occupation; begin with a clear account of the work you actually performed.
List the dates, projects, tasks and evidence available for each period. Self-employed applicants can organise business registration, contracts, invoices and relevant income records. Explain missing evidence and check the provider’s requirements; do not create records of work that did not occur.
Requirements differ. MSA is primarily documentary. OSAP includes technical assessment, with interview and practical requirements depending on the trade and pathway. JRP includes workplace assessment. Follow the selected programme and provider’s instructions.
A clear outline of your situation makes the next conversation more useful.
